Week 13: Legend of the Seeker

Last week of session, aww. Also my last week as SpockSoc President. Our AGM went off without a hitch, and as soon as I get the paperwork sorted and handed in, we’ll be all re-affilitated for next year. Our new president is James Heron, and our new treasurer is Kristian. Caroline is remaining as secretary, and James Rudd is remaining as VP/Webmaster. I’ll still be lurking around in the background as Immediate Past President, though – I’m not expecting James to leap into my shoes in one go. =)

This week, we’ll be finishing off Legend of the Seeker, the second (and final) season. Our hero Richard Cypher searches for the Stone of Tears so that he can seal the veil to the Underworld and prevent the Keeper from destroying all life, but things are looking grim. The location of the Stone is long-lost to living memories, and to make matters worse, prophecies from the Creator foretell doom and gloom should the Seeker ever actually find the Stone. Could this be the end of the line for Richard?

Come along to find out. 5pm Friday in Red Centre G001.

Lastly, we’re always on the lookout for suggestions to make SpockSoc better. I’ve never actually seen more than maybe a third of our members at any screening, and I’d like to know how we can attract more people. Are we just not on at a good time? Was sitting in a room watching TV series not quite what you had in mind when you joined the club? Drop me an e-mail. Suggestions for possible summer screenings also welcome.

Otherwise, see you at our O-Week stall next year?

Mid-session Break: Legend of the Seeker

I’m back from Japan – I hope you all enjoyed my absence. Uh, I mean, enjoyed the screenings in my absence. =)

This week is the mid-session break. We’re showing Legend of the Seeker, the middle third of season two. Since we’ve not got classes on, SpockSoc will be having an extra-special extended screening, like we did last session – this lets us get an extra episode into the screening, which in turn will allow us to finish the season this session.

So the screening starts at 4pm in the Red Centre Theatre (rather than 5). You should hopefully know where that is by now, but we’ll still be hanging the SpockSoc banner out where it’s visible from the main runway. Pizza run at 7-ish.

Week 4: Legend of the Seeker

This week at SpockSoc, we’re starting off the second season of Legend of the Seeker, based on the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind – this season is apparently based on the second and third books in the series. Don’t worry if you missed the first season – I’ll give a brief character recap before we start.

Starting from this week, we’re moving back to Rex Vowels to Red Center G001, the Electrical Engineering lecture theatre – it’s the same place we were last session. Check out the map on our website if you’re uncertain. I don’t have official confirmation of this at the moment, but if it turns out we’ll be somewhere else, I’ll stick up a sign at Rex Vowels Red Center G001. Starting at 5pm Friday as usual.

On a different note, since both myself and Vice President James are going to Japan for a holiday in a week and a half (wai! wai!) I’m making some changes to the schedule – essentially we’re swapping weeks five, six and seven with weeks nine, ten and eleven. Just a little heads-up to let you know – we’ll still be sending these announce e-mails each week like normal.

Mid-Session: Legend of the Seeker

Hope you enjoyed your Easter long weekend and will enjoy (or are enjoying?) your mid-session break. As I said last week, and will expand upon now, SpockSoc has not one but two screenings this week.

This Friday, we’ll be showing the last eight episodes of the first season of Legend of the Seeker, a series based on the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind. It’s a special extended screening, since we have eight episodes to get through – we’ll be starting at 4pm in Rex Vowels. That’s four o’clock Friday, Rex Vowels theatre. Even with the extra hour, it’s gonna be a bit squishy fitting things in, so we’ll be starting not long after 4 – apologies for those who can’t make it then, but you’ll only miss one episode if you come at 5. Pizza run at 7-ish like normal. I will attempt a recap of the first two-thirds of the season, if new members want to come along.
