Week 12: Haven

I hope that any impending exams or assessments aren’t worrying you (like they’re worrying me!) , as we’ll be showing the second part of Haven season 1. As always, we’ll be in the Red Centre theatre from 5PM onwards, with dinner a bit later. See you there!

Week 10: HellBoy

This Friday, we’ll be showing a Guillermo del Toro/Hellboy marathon. Hellboy is, well, a boy from hell, who was summoned by the Nazis to defeat the allies near the end of the 2nd World War. They failed and now Hellboy fights crime! And giant monsters from the abyss.
We’ll be showing the two movies, followed by Pan’s Labyrinth if we have enough time. The screening will start 5 in the Red Centre Theatre, with a dinner run later.
In news that I’m passing on from other sources, UNSW security would like me to tell you that while there’s been an increase in thefts on campus, they’re working with the police to sort things out. The best way to get more information is to follow them on Twitter and check their Facebook page.
See you Friday!

Week 9: Primeval & Source Code Giveaway

I hope you all had a good week off, this Friday at 5PM, we’ll be showing Primeval. A British Sci-Fi show about strange creatures that come through time and have to be stopped. Both for their safety and ours. Since you know, a giant dinosaur running around on the freeway wouldn’t be good for anyone.
It’s in the Red Centre as usual, with dinner a bit later, during dinner we’ll also get the chance to do something a bit more fun; we’ve got 10 vouchers to get 2-tickets for the price of 1 to see the movie Source Code (You’d never have guessed) We’ve also got 5 double vouchers. No ticket buying involved, just rock up and hand it into the cinema and get two tickets. Nifty!
How can you get one of these vouchers? Turn up to the screening this Friday, and during dinner we’ll be raffling them out (a hat may or may not be involved) to give you good reason to come along here’s a quick synopsis of the movie. I hope you can all make it along.
SOURCE CODE
When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. In an assignment unlike any he 9;s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack. Filled with mind-boggling twists and heart-pounding suspense, Source Code is a smart action-sci-fi-thriller directed by acclaimed Duncan Jones (Moon) also starring Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga and Jeffrey Wright.

Mid-Session Break: No Ordinary Family

So, it’s mid session break and we’re showing the continuation of the first season of No Ordinary Family. Good fun for the whole family, especially since it’s about a family.
We’ll be starting at the normal time of 5PM, and going until 11PM, with dinner around 6.
And just to make sure no one forgets, there’s a meetup to see Thor at the Randwick Ritz tomorrow, at 11:20 AM. You can get ticket refunds, and see a fun movie with a bunch of fun people. How do I know it’s fun? I’ve seen it. How do I know the people are fun? I know them. My goodness I’m magical I really am.
Hope to see you at this week’s screening, and if not, I hope you’re having a nice break

Week 8: Chuck

I know this Friday is Good Friday, a Public Holiday and all, but we are having a screening (next week as well!) This week it’ll be Chuck we’re showing, an espionage show, that’s apparently pretty good I’ve heard, we’ll see.
We’ll be showing in the Red Centre Theatre at 5PM, the banner will go up, so you can find us easily. Dinner around 6:60 – 7,

Week 7: Warehouse 13

This Friday we’ll be showing Warehouse 13, the premise is fairly simple; there’s a government warehouse filled with all sorts of horrendous and wonderful artefacts and things, which needs to be guarded to make sure nothing is stole…and that nothing gets out.

It’s basically the final scene from The Raiders of the Lost Ark, turned into a TV series, good fun for the whole family!
We’ll be in the Red Centre Theatre again, starting from 5PM, with a pizza dinner around 6:30 or 7.

Week 6: Misfits

As you may have guessed from the subject line (what a wonderful invention) this week we’ll be showing Misfits; season 2 to be precise, but if you haven’t seen the first season (and you should have, it’s very good) the idea is fairly simple: Heroes, with ASBOs. Except it’s better than that, and I’m really quite looking forward to season 2. I hope you’ll come along, the Red Centre as usual, at 5PM, with a pizza run at about 6.

Week 5: Sanctuary

So this week we’ll be showing Sanctuary season three. The basic premise of the show is simple: there are things out there that aren’t human, it’s the Sanctuary’s job to guard these ‘cryptids’ from humanity, and guard humanity from the cryptids. When we last left our intrepid zoo-keepers, the world was about to end. Not much of a cliff-hanger there, oh no…
Just as a quick reminder, there’ll be Battle: Los Angeles group movie night tomorrow at the Hoyts in the Entertainment Quarter. The movie starts at 6:50PM, I’ll be hanging around before and after the screening, and we can head out to a dinner/drinks afterwords if anyone’s interested. I can give discounts up to 2 dollars to anyone who remembers to hand me their receipt at the end, so I’ll be standing right outside the entrance, not in the slightest bit creepy like…

Week 4: Haven

So this week we’ll be watching Haven, an American paranormal mystery show, which is (loosely) based on a Steven King short story. It certainly feels loosely based on a Steven King short story, which is by no means a bad thing. Quite fun to watch, we saw the pilot last season, and we’ll start with the that this Friday, before continuing on. We’ll be in the Red Centre Theatre all over again at 5, with pizza and drinks orders going out around 6:00 or 6:30.

Week 3: Mystery Unverse

It’s week three and this means it’s on to SG Unverse season 2. If you haven’t seen any Unverse before this, don’t worry, I hadn’t either and the story (humans on a spaceship must return to planet Earth) is fairly simple to get into but lots of fun along the way.
We’ll be starting at 5PM again, in the Red Centre theatre with the Spock-Soc banner hanging outside the door.
