Winter Screening – Grimm

GrimmHi Everyone!

This week we’re kicking off our winter break screenings for the year, and exploring Portland’s underworld of mythical creatures in Grimm:

Homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt of the Portland Police Bureau learns he is descended from a line of guardians known as “Grimms,” charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world (called “Wesen”). Throughout the episodes, he must battle against an assortment of dangerous creatures, with help from his friend Monroe (a reformed Blutbad), and his partner Detective Hank Griffin.

As always, we’ll be meeting in Macauley at 5pm on Friday, and having a pizza run at around 7pm.

In other news, we’ll also be running a marathon screening for ‘Avatar: Legend of Korra’ this Saturday starting at 10 am. The location hasn’t been finalised yet, so check out the Facebook page to keep up to date.

Week 13 – Game of Thrones

Game of ThronesHi Everyone!

It’s the last week of semester, and this Friday we’re celebrating with Game of Thrones:

For those who need a summary, Game of Thrones is a battle of wits, politics, bloodshed and loyalty between the great houses of Westeros. From the gold of the House Lannister to the ruins of House Stark, from the resurging power of House Targaryen to newly appointed wardens of the north House Bolton, the land is thrown into turmoil in the fires of a war between fire and ice. In the Game of Thrones, you win or you die.

As always, we will be meeting in Macaulay theatre at 5 p.m. and doing a pizza run at 7 p.m.

If that’s not enough excitement for you, Spocksoc will be venturing to the Ritz cenemas to see Tomorrowland. We’ll be meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday for the 6:20 screening, and going for dinner afterwards.

Week 12 – Arrow

ArrowHi Everyone!

This Friday we’ll be returning to Starling City, and following its resident vigilantes in Arrow:

After five years stranded on an island, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen is found and returned to his family in Starling City. During the day he works to rebuild his life, while at night he hunts down those responsible for the violent crime rates under the guise of a hooded vigilante. After driving Deathstroke out of Starling City, Oliver must deal with the aftermath for those close to him, while confronting enemies old and new.

We’ll be meeting in Macauley at 5 p.m. and having Pizza at around 7 p.m.

Week 11 – The Flash

The FlashHi Everyone!

This Friday we’ll be continuing on with the Flash, venturing to Central City to join the team at Star Labs:

Barry Allen is struck by lighting the same night as Central City’s particle accelerator malfunctions. When he wakes up after nine months in a coma, he discovers he has the ability to move at superhuman speed. Working with the disgraced scientists at Star Labs, Barry apprehends other ‘metahumans’, and protects the residents of Central City.

We’ll be meeting at Macauley Theatre at 5 p.m. and having pizza at around 7 p.m.

Tonight, Spocksoc will also be going to the Ritz to see Mad Max: Fury Road. We’ll be meeting up from 6:30 and going to the 7 p.m. screening, with dinner afterwards.

Week 10 – Sleepy Hollow

The end of semester draws nearer, and projects piling up may make it seem like the end of the world. It seems appropriate that this Friday Spocksoc returns to Sleepy Hollow:

In the middle of the American Revolutionary War, Ichabod Crane is assigned a secret mission which ends as he beheads the Hessian soldier, the Headless Horseman, even as the horseman kills Crane. Over two hundred years later, the Headless Horseman is raised from his grave by an unknown party. However, with their fates so interwoven, the resurrection of the horseman causes Ichabod Crane to return to life. After the horseman beheads her friend and mentor, Lt Abbie Mills must team up with the old soldier to stop the Headless Horseman.

As always, we will start at 5pm in Macaulay and do a pizza run at 7pm.

Week 9 – Defiance

DefianceHi Everyone!

In this week’s Friday screening, Spocksoc will be returning to Defiance:

Defiance is set in 2046, in the aftermath of a conflict between Earth and a wandering alien species known as the Votans. During the war, the Votan fleet was destroyed, stranding the Votans on Earth and raining down debris and rogue technology which has devastated the planet. The series follows a former Marine, Joshua Nolan, and his adopted Votan daughter as they try to survive in the human-alien border town of Defiance.

We’ll be meeting at 5 p.m. in Macauley Theatre, with pizza at around 7 p.m.

If that’s not enough to keep you busy, Spocksoc will also be attending the Infini screening and Q&A event at the Ritz this Thursday. This is a one time only event, so don’t miss out!

Week 8 – Lost Girl

Lost GirlHi Everyone!

This Friday, Spocksoc will be returning to the secret underworld of the Fae in Lost Girl:
Bo is a succubus who grew up believing herself to be human, and unaware of the Fae world. After saving and befriending a human named Kenzi, the two start a Fae/Human detective agency, while Bo learns to control her powers and deal with Fae politics. As a neutral Fae, Bo must contend with “Light” and “Dark” sides who want her to join them, and her uncertain parentage creates its own complications.

We’ll be meeting in Macauley at 5 p.m. and having pizza at around 7 p.m.

If you haven’t had a chance to see Avengers: Age of Ultron yet (or you want to see it a third time, we don’t judge), join us at the Ritz Cinemas on Monday!

Week 7 – Daredevil

DareDevilHi Everyone!

This week Spocksoc returns to the world of superheroes, secret agents, vigilantes and the many faces of Stan Lee with Daredevil:

Daredevil follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.

We’ll be meeting on Friday at 5pm, with a pizza run at around 7pm, at Macauley Theatre.

If you can’t wait for the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or you just want to say you saw it before everyone else, then join us on Wednesday at the Ritz for an advance screening of The Avengers: Age of Ultron!

Mid-Sem – Once Upon a Time

Once Upon A TimeHi Everyone!

I hope you are enjoying your break. This week, we will be returning to Storybrooke in Once Upon a Time:

Once Upon a Time is set in the fictional small town of Storybrooke, Maine. The town is populated by characters from fairy tales, who have been exiled to the real world due to a curse cast by the Evil Queen as part of a revenge plot against Snow White and Prince Charming. After freeing the town from the Wicked Witch, Emma returns from her misadventure in the Enchanted Forest bringing more than one unexpected surprise.

For the next two weeks we have a different venue, the Red Centre Theatre (G001). It can get a bit chilly, so bring a jacket, but we will still be starting at 5pm and doing a pizza run at 7pm.

In other news, Spocksoc is holding a joint trivia night with Docsoc, Vadersoc and Tolkiensoc. The event will be on Thursday at 5pm, so come and show off your nerdy knowledge!

Week 5 – Agents of SHIELD

Agents Of ShieldHi Everyone!

The mid-semester break is close, and what better way to celebrate your upcoming freedom than with Spocksoc? Spocksoc returns the world of superheroes, aliens, secret agents and the many faces of Stan Lee with Marvel’s Agents of Shield:

For those of you who have never seen the show (or are not clearance level 7), following the alien invasion of New York, S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) sets up a small team to investigate superhuman and supervillain activity. Coulson’s team must now cope with the aftermath of betrayal within the ranks, and by a member of their team, while old enemies seek to destroy S.H.I.E.L.D. for good.

We’ll also be holding a movie outing this Monday to see the new Cinderella movie. Have your fairy godmother conjure you a pumpkin carriage to get you to the Ritz!
